CRT To Install a center for technological innovation to boost the tequila industry

The Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT) has signed an agreement with the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI) to strengthen innovation and competitiveness in the tequila industry.

The signed agreement provides for the establishment of a Technology and Innovation Support Center (CATI) to assist the tequila industry in accessing scientific and technological information, training, and technical assistance regarding intellectual property, innovation, and technology transfer.

IMPI Director General Vidal Llerenas Morales emphasized that the center could contribute to the development of technological solutions for other industries, such as the distillates, beverages, and food industries.

“Surely much of what we’re going to find—since we’ll also be able to apply these innovations—will be relevant to the distilling, beverage, and food industries,” he said.

For his part, CRT President Aurelio López Rocha confirmed the organization’s inclusion in the CATI National Network, which he hopes will help strengthen the sustainability of the agribusiness sector, protect intellectual property, and develop new solutions for the tequila production chain.

“At the Tequila Regulatory Council, we are committed to the sustainability of the tequila industry, the protection of intellectual property, and the promotion of innovation—all of which are essential drivers for strengthening Mexico’s first Designation of Origin, Tequila, as well as for sharing our knowledge and lessons learned,” he emphasized.

The Technology and Innovation Support Centers program was established in 2009 by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to facilitate access to scientific and technological knowledge and promote the use of intellectual property.
