ENI expects to exceed 100,000 barrels per day
The Italian oil company Ente Nazionale Idrocarburi (ENI) reached peak production at the fields it operates in Mexico: 95,700 barrels of crude oil per day, equivalent to production at its Amoca, Miztón, and Tecocalli fields, and expects to exceed 100,000 barrels per day by 2026, remaining the country’s largest private operator.
According to the company’s public reports, as of the end of August, investment in the country had exceeded US$6 billion, and another US$10 billion is expected to be invested this year as well, driven by increased production and other plans under the production-sharing contracts awarded during the oil rounds of the administration two terms ago.
In Area 1, located in shallow waters off the coast of Tabasco, progress has already been made on the development of two new wells that will support increased production and estimated investments for 2026 and 2027.
In addition, in Area 7—as part of the same operation—there are prospects in the area totaling up to 500 million barrels, as well as discussions with nearby operators such as Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex), Repsol, and even Harbour in the Zama field regarding the creation of a hub, potential synergies, and even the consolidation of contracts—all of which would help advance the evaluation of resources toward the development of new oil fields.

Sources close to the company reported that, for the time being, they are waiting for the government to issue calls for proposals for a 2.0 version of mixed partnership contracts with Pemex, in addition to the cap on cost recovery that has been announced so far, which have been attractive to companies the size of ENI, which already has operations in the country stemming from awards in the oil rounds during the 2012–2018 presidential term.
