Spain-based automotive supplier Gestamp today officially opened its second manufacturing plant in the state of San Luis Potosi, seventh overall in Mexico.
The company invested US$86 million to build the nearly 300,000 sq.-ft. facility over a 34.5-acre land located in the Colinas de San Luis industrial park. So far, 270 job positions have been created.Â
The new factory will have the latest technology in hot stamping and hydroforming, which allows to shape the steel in complex ways thanks to the strength of the water, becoming the first operation of the company in Mexico with this type of technology dedicated to the production of chassis parts.
This facility is in addition to the one that the subsidiary of Gestamp, Edscha, has in the same locality which has a staff of 270 people.
“Mexico is a market with enormous potential, which has grown exponentially in recent years, and from where vehicles are manufactured for all over the world, so we fully trust our capacity for growth here, always hand in hand with our customers”, highlighted the CEO of Gestamp, Francisco Riberas.
The company operates in Mexico since 2001. Other production sites are located in Toluca, Puebla, Aguascalientes and San Luis PotosĂ, while its workforce in the country exceeds 3,600 people.
