GKN expands its operations in Chihuahua

CHIHUAHUA - GKN Aerospace inaugurated the expansion of its plant located in the South Industrial Park in the city of Chihuahua, where it invested US$30 million and will create 300 new direct jobs.

Of the total investment, US$10 million were used to expand the plant, another US$10 million were used to train personnel and the remaining amount was used to acquire state-of-the-art technology.

Since 2012, the multinational has cultivated a close relationship with the entity, where it has worked to promote aerospace development, with investments in infrastructure and resources.

Chihuahua's Secretary of Innovation and Economic Development (SIDE), Ulises Alejandro Fernández Gamboa, pointed out that the state concentrates a third of the jobs that the aerospace sector generates nationally, which are distributed in the 45 certified companies it hosts.

Fernandez emphasized that there is a continuous commitment to enhance the region's competitive advantages and attract more investments and development opportunities.

He also highlighted the training promoted in the aerospace sector and the permanent collaboration with 10 state universities, which have programs linked to this industry.

The CEO of the new plant, Mauricio Herrera, highlighted the teamwork and the enriching process that led to its establishment.

He also underscored the company's commitment to aeronautical manufacturing and the importance of collaboration to offer sustainable solutions to customers in the sector.

Among the corporate projects highlighted at the Chihuahua plant is the development of capabilities that has allowed engineers to be trained in countries such as Holland, India, China and Turkey, to ensure that they are at the forefront of knowledge in the sector.

The ceremony was attended by leaders such as Peter Dilnot, CEO of GKN Aerospace; Malachi Momper, Director of North American Operations; Mauricio Herrera, Plant Manager; and René Espinoza, President of the Maquiladora and Export Industry Association (Index).
