GM Silao Begins Production of the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra
General Motors (GM) Mexico has begun production of the new generation of the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 at its assembly plant in Silao, Guanajuato, ahead of any other facility scheduled to manufacture these models in North America.
According to information published by the specialized website GM Authority, the first units rolled off the production line in October; the Crew Cab models, featuring a four-door double cab.
For the rest of the year, the Silao plant will be the only facility responsible for producing these models, while GM Fort Wayne Assembly, located in Indiana, will join the program in early 2027, on a date that has not yet been specified.
The distribution of production between the two plants will result in different cab configurations. While the Guanajuato plant will manufacture the Crew Cab and regular cab versions, the Fort Wayne plant will be responsible for producing the Crew Cab and Double Cab variants, the latter being a more compact double-cab configuration.
It is worth noting that, prior to the start of this program, the Silao plant made operational preparations. According to Reuters reports, the complex temporarily suspended production of the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra models during the first weeks of July and August to carry out these activities.
