Groups create the Environmental Capital Fund for Mexico

Edgar Amador Zamora, Secretary of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP), stated that projects related to water security, watershed restoration, ecosystem conservation, the circular economy, air quality, biodiversity, and territorial resilience help reduce risks in value chains and strengthen the environments in which companies operate.
During the presentation of the Environmental Capital Fund for Mexico—a financial instrument—Amador Zamora noted that many companies in Mexico are already making efforts in these areas, so the goal is to provide a platform that brings these efforts together.
“That is why we invite companies in the business sector to embrace this fund, to talk about it, and to spread the word in their circles. It is very important that, through word of mouth and person-to-person communication, we can make this a vehicle that complements public policy efforts,” the Secretary of the Treasury urged.
Given that there is no “Plan B” for the conservation and restoration of ecosystems in the country, Alicia Barcena, Secretary of the Environment and Natural Resources, emphasized that achieving an environmental policy compatible with economic development is possible.
“It’s important to assign a value to nature just as we do with carbon dioxide,” the official stated. “Globally, the cost of damage to nature is estimated at US$7.3 trillion, yet only one dollar is invested for every trillion to restore it,” she added.
