Grupo Mundo Maya Announce Construction on the Puebla Airport

The “Hermanos Serdán” International Airport in Puebla will undergo its first comprehensive renovation, with an investment of US$58.9 million, as confirmed by the state government and Grupo Mundo Maya, which is responsible for the airport's operations.

Through the signing of an agreement between Governor Alejandro Armenta Mier and the director of the airport operator, Ricardo Flores Gonzalez, it has been guaranteed that the construction work will be completed in 2027.

Meanwhile, of the US$58.9 million investment, US$23.5 million will come from state funds; however, the Puebla administration itself must consider securing a short-term loan—to be repaid next year—to provide the remaining US$35.3 million needed to complete the project.

The renovation of the terminal, located in the municipality of Huejotzingo, includes new check-in and security screening areas, the addition of waiting rooms, and a reorganization of the space to enable more efficient operations for domestic and international flights.

Similarly, the parking lot will be expanded to double its capacity to 774 parking spaces, and the baggage claim carousels will be upgraded to improve the service experience for passengers.

With this project to improve the Puebla airport, the goal is to reach 1.3 million passengers annually by 2030. It was also noted that the agreement to ensure the completion of the construction work would unlock the state’s logistical, commercial, and tourism potential through the comprehensive transformation of airport and ground infrastructure.
