Guanajuato and Low Footwear Imports

Guanajuato has seen a significant 35% decline in footwear imports; however, this   points to a more favorable environment for the development of the local industry.

This reduction has been reflected in Guanajuato, where a 23% decrease has benefited the local industry, creating a favorable environment for this sector.

The State Government reports that the administration of Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo has successfully promoted initiatives that support competitiveness in strategic sectors, driving business growth and creating more opportunities for Guanajuato.

It can be seen that the decline in imports has occurred mainly in countries that supply footwear to Mexico, such as China, which saw a 60% decline; Vietnam, with a 10% decline; and Indonesia, with a 7% decline.

When contracting imports—usually from Asia—this is a result of a trade policy being implemented at the national level. This creates a competitive environment for Mexican industry and opens up opportunities for manufacturing companies, particularly those in the footwear sector. 6,225 companies in this industry are in the leather and footwear sector, which is dedicated to the tanning and finishing of leather and hides, as well as the manufacture of footwear products.

The Fashion Cluster employs 108,454 people in the leather and footwear sector, establishing Guanajuato as one of the main sources of employment and economic development.

The State Secretary of Economy has emphasized that it will continue to promote strategies that support and strengthen the industry's competitiveness, as well as help local businesses grow.
