Heavy vehicle sales start the year with increases

MEXICO - After closing a historic year, in which expectations and records in wholesale sales, production and exports of heavy vehicles were exceeded, the National Association of Bus, Truck and Tractor-Trailer Manufacturers (ANPACT) reported that 2024 began positively and dynamically.

ANPACT believes that the heavy vehicle manufacturing industry will have a good year if the conditions of regulatory consistency, security and facilitation of investment and business climate prevail.

Virginia Olalde López Gavito, Director of Foreign Trade and Economic Studies, informed that wholesale sales of heavy vehicles during the first month of the year totaled 3,754 units, which represents an increase of 10.3%, compared to the 3,402 units sold during the same period of 2023, which is the best January recorded since 2008, when the indicator totaled 4,166 units.

Especially in the passenger vehicle segment, a growth of 97.8% was observed, which means that there was an increase of 349 units compared to what was sold in the same month of the previous year, which reflects a recovery of this segment that had been affected by the pandemic, said Virginia Olalde.

As for heavy vehicles shipped abroad, 11,891 units were exported in January, which compared to the 15,221 units exported in January 2023 represent a 21.9% decrease.

Meanwhile, heavy vehicle production during the first month of 2024 totaled 15,587 units, which translates into a 16.1% decrease compared to the same month of the previous year, when 18,568 units were produced.
