Ibero argues for attracting Asian automakers to hire VW workers

The president of the Universidad Iberoamericana (Ibero), Puebla campus, Alejandro Guevara Sanginés, has recommended that the state government attract investment from Chinese automakers or auto parts suppliers to create more jobs, where the workers laid off by Volkswagen de México can be placed.

He noted that skilled human capital should be utilized at the local level, given the company's difficulties in rehiring employees; therefore, other options should be explored with existing companies or efforts should be made to attract new assembly plants.

He believed that creating alternatives would prevent local talent from being left without job options in the face of the changes the automotive industry is undergoing in the country and around the world.

He explained that there will be no outflow of highly specialized personnel, but there will be a waste of talent at the local level because those laid off from Volkswagen are not being hired.

Due to the layoff of 611 front-line workers at Volkswagen de México in late August as part of a shift restructuring, the third shifts for Tiguan and Jetta production were eliminated.

He noted that this is a good opportunity to broaden the range of job options in Puebla through the automotive industry, which is a pillar of Puebla's economy.
