Smurfit Kappa to invest US$34 million in Baja California

DUBLIN – The Irish capital company with the highest investment in Mexico and which has operations in Baja California, Smurfit Kappa, informed the Government of Baja California, that it will invest US$34 million , for the expansion in this entity of its corrugated cardboard packaging operations.

In the work meeting were the ambassador of Mexico in Ireland, Miguel Malfavón Andrade; the minister of Economic Development, Carlo Bonfante Olache; the company's financial director, Ken Bowles; the director of Taxation Keneth Byrne; the feneral counsel of the Group, Brian Marshall; and the legal counsel for North America, Álvaro Montaño.

The expansion scheduled in two stages, will consist of a production plant with processes that are not in Baja California and that are added to the diversity of folding cardboard, folding or cartonboard, known in English as "folding carton".

During a meeting, the company made mention to the support of the State Government and expressed that as part of its strategic training program, an international delegation of young people is located in Ireland, 3 of them from the Smurfit plant in Tijuana. In addition, Governor Francisco Vega stated he’s committed to join efforts in order to achieve the benefits of the Supply Law.
