International trade: Nuevo Leon strengthens aluminum industry

The aluminum industry is facing a turning point amid changes in international trade, rising input costs, and the restructuring of supply chains in North America.
Representatives from the sector, business organizations, and government officials attended a meeting convened by Melissa A. Bishop, US Consul General in Monterrey, to analyze the challenges and opportunities that will shape the future of this strategic industry. COMCE Noreste was represented by its Executive Director, Andres Franco, who emphasized the importance of strengthening binational dialogue to boost regional competitiveness.
Topics addressed included the integration of value chains, production-related costs, and international conditions that directly impact the metalworking sector; aluminum is an essential input for industries such as automotive, aerospace, and advanced manufacturing, especially in an environment where nearshoring is driving the relocation of investments to North America.
Participants agreed on the importance of maintaining constant communication and promoting joint strategies to address global challenges and capitalize on market opportunities.
