Kia Motors assembly plant in Pesqueria, Nuevo Leon, celebrated the first anniversary of its official inauguration operating at full throttle to reach a total 242,000 vehicles built since it began production.

According to company officials, 107,000 units rolled out of the facility from day one in May 2016 through December 2016. An additional 135,000 vehicles have been built at the plant from January through August 2017.

Kia has built hatchback and sedan versions of the Rio and the Forte models from day one at this site, adding production of the Accent for its sister brand Hyundai starting last July.

In terms of sales in Mexico, the company accumulated 124,845 units since July 2015 when these operations began. So far this year, a total of 55,712 units have been placed, representing a growth of 60.5% compared to the same period in 2016.

The Mexico-made Accent alone sold 1,044 units during the month of its launch last August.

Since its arrival, Kia Motors has put training as one of its highest priorities. To that end, the company has sent 760 employees to countries such as Korea, China, Brazil and the United States.

In terms of logistics, Kia Motors has achieved one of the key certifications in this area, the SAT Authorized Economic Operator. The achievement guarantees its operations as safe and efficient to avoid bad practices such as terrorism, drug trafficking and money laundering among others.
