Lego Invests US$400 Million in a New Plant
The construction toy manufacturer Lego has decided to invest US$400 million to develop its manufacturing infrastructure in northern Mexico, with the aim of strengthening its production chains.
The Lego Company has been operating in the state of Nuevo León since 2008; however, it has decided to expand its facilities by 62,000 square meters and incorporate state-of-the-art technology, according to Nancy Sanchez, the company’s general manager for the Americas.
The investment in the complex totals US$400 million and includes a new packaging facility and a high-capacity automated warehouse, which is expected to create more than 1,300 new jobs.
The expansion is due to growing global demand for Lego products, the company said.
Economy Secretary Marcelo Ebrard explained that the investment strengthens “Plan Mexico,” a government initiative aimed at boosting the national economy, in addition to benefiting the supply chain ecosystem for polymers, plastics, adhesives, and silicone.
Finally, Lego cited Nuevo León’s world-class skilled workforce, logistics infrastructure, and manufacturing ecosystem as key factors driving its expansion.
