UK-based GKN Driveline confirmed plans to expand four plants in Sanford, Maiden, Mebane and Timberlake, North Carolina, after state officials approved two incentive grants worth more than US$ 3 million over the next 12 years, the Triangle Business Journal revealed.

The company will invest US$ 179 million in the expansion projects across the state to add a total of 302 jobs, according to the news report.

GKN Driveline considered locating those jobs in Ohio, Sweden, Japan, Brazil and Mexico before turning to North Carolina. BMW, Maserati, Ford, Chrysler and Audi are among its clients.

The two Jobs Development Investment Grants approved were the fourth and fifth awarded to GKN Driveline since 2012. GKN Driveline currently employs more than 2,700 people in North Carolina.

The first grant awarded was valued at US$ 1.54 million for the projects in Sanford, Mebane and Timberlake; the other was valued at US$ 1.59 for the project in Maiden, according to local media.
