Mars Petcare, the pet food division of global confectionery manufacturer Mars Incorporated, inaugurated its second plant in Queretaro, dedicated to moist food for cats and dogs.

The company invested US$ 50 million in the plant which started operations at 30% of its total planned capacity, scheduled to reach up to 30,000 tons of products a year by 2020. Such output volume will increase the company’s total capacity in Mexico by 40%.

The facility, located in the Municipality of El Marques, is Mars Inc.’s fourth production site for pet food in Mexico. Once fully operational, the plant will rely on a 500-strong workforce.

Mars employs some 3,700 associates at other six production facilities in Mexico among chocolate, candy and pet food factories. Some of the brands the company produces in Mexico are Snickers, M&M, Twix, Dove, Milky Way, Skittles, Wrigley, Pedigree, Whiskas, Cesar and Royal Canin.
