Mexico and Germany sign air connectivity agreement

MEXICO CITY — Mexico and Germany signed a Modifying Agreement to the Air Transport Agreement with the European country, which will create a flexible regulation that will promote air connectivity, for the benefit of tourism and trade between both countries.

During the Binational Commission Mexico-Germany, the head of the Ministry of Communications and Transportation (SCT), Javier Jiménez Espriú, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany, Heiko Maas, seeked to strengthen cooperation in air between the two nations.

"Favorable conditions are being generated for the airlines of both countries, creating a flexible framework that allows the multi-destination of airlines, multi-destination operation, a broadly flexible frequency framework that will allow long-term commercial planning for these airlines" reported the SCT through a press release

The government agency added that a simplified tariff scheme and greater facilitation will be established on the transfer of income generated by the provision of services.

At the end of 2018, the industry mobilized nearly half a million passengers and almost 60,000 tons of freight between Mexico and Germany, which showed a growth rate of 8% in users and 27% in cargo.

Currently, only Lufthansa and Condor operate regular passenger flights between both countries, connecting Munich and Frankfurt with Mexico City and Cancun
