Mexico Launches Antidumping Investigation into Steel Plates from Japan

Mexico has launched an antidumping investigation into steel imports from Japan, according to a resolution published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF)

This investigation was authorized by the Ministry of Economy at the request of Grupo Acerro, which reportedly alleged unfair international trade practices—such as price discrimination—in imports of steel sheet originating in Japan.The resolution established that the investigation period would have taken place during 2025 and that it would be followed by an analysis of the damages from January 2023 through December 2025.

The antidumping investigation will cover imports of steel plate from Japan, regardless of the country of export, according to the resolution published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF).

However, it is important to note that the determination is not conclusive even if dumping is found; the purpose of the proceeding is to determine whether Japanese imports were sold under unfair conditions and whether they have caused material injury to the Mexican industry.

The case began with a petition filed by Grupo Acerero, which reported adverse effects on sales, revenue, operating income, and market share. Ternium supported this petition, and the companies identified by the Ministry of Economy as domestic producers decided to support the investigation.
