Mexico-Queretaro Corridor: Hub for freight infrastructure

As part of the Freight Infrastructure Task Force initiative, Mexican companies such as Grupo Bimbo, Mercado Libre, FEMSA, Heineken Mexico, OXXO, and others are participating. This initiative stems from the Global Sustainability Electromobility Playground and is co-organized by the National Association of Private Transportation (ANTP), its most important industry partner.

Its goal is to design and implement—from within the business sector—a shared-investment model for charging infrastructure for medium- and heavy-duty vehicles that spreads costs and reduces risk for each organization.

The model adapts to Mexico an approach already proven in countries such as the United States, Colombia, and Brazil, based on demand aggregation, collaboration among companies, the involvement of multiple stakeholders, and neutral coordination. One of the first technical analyses the group will tackle jointly is the availability of electricity at the locations where charging stations will be installed—a factor that determines where and when electrification is feasible.

From this initial stage emerged a shared focus: the Mexico–Queretaro corridor. Building on this, the group will identify strategic locations for deploying charging infrastructure—both last-mile and long-distance—and will outline an initial joint investment project.
