Mexico’s Aerospace Industry Needs Clear Rules to Attract Investment

Mexico needs a clearer regulatory framework, specialized infrastructure and stronger financing mechanisms to accelerate the development of its aerospace industry and attract public and private investment, experts said during the national inauguration of Space Week Mexico 2026.

The event brought together representatives from academia, the aerospace sector and scientific organizations to discuss how Mexico can translate its engineering talent and university research into commercially viable technologies and greater participation in the global space industry.

Ramón Córdova Muñoz, representing the Mexican Meeting of Experimental Rocketry Engineering (ENMICE), highlighted the growth of the country's rocketry community and called for a national strategy to support the development of domestic aerospace technology.

Since its first meeting in 2021, ENMICE has expanded from seven participating teams to more than 60 universities and teams in its 2025 edition. The initiative has also helped encourage entrepreneurial projects involving launch vehicles, rovers and payloads.

Córdova argued that Mexico needs to create the conditions for university projects to evolve into companies capable of entering aerospace supply chains. He pointed to the importance of clear rules, specialized facilities and funding opportunities that would allow young engineers to advance their projects without relying exclusively on personal resources.
