New BMW 3 Series Embraces the “Neue Klasse” Design Language
Premium automaker BMW unveiled the eighth generation of the 3 Series, which ushers the iconic sedan into the “Neue Klasse” era with an all-new design, advanced digital technology, and a choice of electric or gasoline powertrains.
Building on more than five decades of success, the new generation represents a significant technological leap forward while retaining the model’s signature sporty character.
Following the debut of the new BMW i3 as the first all-electric 3 Series built on the Neue Klasse architecture, the new gasoline-powered BMW 3 Series models are now arriving, featuring efficient internal combustion engines with 48-volt mild-hybrid technology.
At the top of the gasoline lineup, the BMW M350 xDrive will combine M Performance capabilities with a BMW inline-six-cylinder engine.

Together, the all-electric BMW i3 and the gasoline-powered BMW 3 Series models demonstrate BMW’s commitment to open technology, offering customers a variety of powertrain options within a single model family.
Uniform Exterior Design
The new BMW 3 Series carries the clear and expressive “Neue Klasse” design language across all its powertrain variants. Defined lines, sculpted surfaces, and minimalist details create a modern exterior, while the classic proportions of BMW’s sport sedans preserve the model’s unmistakable identity and dynamic character.
Slightly larger than its predecessor, the new 3 Series maintains the agile proportions of a compact sports sedan across all its engine variants, even though differences in architecture require slight variations in exterior dimensions compared to the all-electric BMW i3.
The muscular front wheel arches, rearward-shifted cabin, and short overhangs reinforce the sporty profile, with a low character line that visually lowers the vehicle’s center of gravity, while the flared rear wheel arches emphasize its robustness and presence.

The hidden window seals create seamless transitions between the glass and the body. On the all-electric BMW i3, the hidden seals give the side profile a precise and modern look; on gasoline-powered BMW 3 Series models, the vertical seals are integrated behind the window frame trim.
