NewStar Fresh Foods to add new equipment at Mexicali facility

NewStar Fresh Foods, a grower, harvester and processor of a variety of vegetables, announced plans to enhance operations at its facility in Mexicali, Baja California, to reduce food waste, simplify their supply chain and ensure consistent portion control.

Though no specific amount of investment was revealed, the California-based company said in a press release it will add mechanized optical sorters, precision slicers and form-fill machinery designed to produce custom cuts and packs for foodservice, food processing and home meal kit companies.

“This investment will help us achieve one of our strategic initiatives of delivering innovative, customized and ‘in the box’ ingredient solutions to our customers at higher volumes, year-round, without sacrificing quality or shelf life,” NewStar owner and CEO Anthony Vasquez said.

NewStar Fresh Foods, LLC was founded in 1996 and is based in Salinas, California with locations in Arizona and Mexico. The company offers conventional and organic vegetables; and iceless green onions, asparagus, tender leaf lettuces, baby spinach, cilantro, spinach and baby kale, powergreens, chopped green onions, kale, parsley, and spring mixes.
