Mazda executives confirmed to Mexican media that the production of the next generation Mazda3 will take place in Mexico, although the details are not yet clear. El Economista pointed out that its production will begin in mid-2019, while MotorpasiĂłn assured that between February and March the first units will roll out of the plant located in Salamanca, Guanajuato.
For his part, columnist Carlos Mota revealed that the Mexican facility initially will only produce the sedan while the hatchback versions for the North American market will be imported from Japan, as happened with the outgoing generation for several years.
Something all news outlets agreed on is that Mexico will be one of the first markets to receive both versions, which will begin to be marketed on December 6 during a presale campaign, although the units will be delivered in the first days of the 2019.
Last week, Mazda unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show the next generation of the Mazda3, the first commercial model to feature some of the technologies of its “Sustainable Zoom-Zoom 2030” long-term vision.
Such features include, but are not limited to, the revolutionary new gasoline engine called Skyactiv-X and a set of structural technologies called Skyactiv-Vehicle Architecture. It’s also the first model to adopt a more mature interpretation of the Kodo design language, which according to the company “explores the essence of Japanese aesthetics and pursues elegant and sophisticated styling.”
