Nidec Mobility Mexico Seeks to Automate the Manufacturing of Automotive Components.

The Nidec Mobility Mexico plant is located in the Las Colinas Industrial Park. It operates using state-of-the-art technology and is equipped with high-speed production lines and cutting-edge collaborative robotics. This Japanese company manufactures components that facilitate the interaction between people and their vehicles, including parts for the country’s most well-known brands: Ford, General Motors, Honda, Mazda, BMW, and Stellantis.

Nidec Mobility Mexico specializes in developing and manufacturing electrical and electronic components used in the automotive industry. Switches, electrical systems for car ignition switches, electric power steering systems, in-vehicle communication systems, seat memory controls, door controls, ABS systems, and motorcycle components are some of these products, in addition to electronic circuit boards, chips, and memory modules that are subsequently integrated into various automotive systems.

The company explained that one of its production lines has achieved 86% automation in the assembly of 50,000 units per week for Ford vehicles, and each module consists of 42 components, and 95% of the parts that make up the product are manufactured in-house at the facilities.

While all of this is happening, it has recently been announced that, as part of this process, the engineering department has developed tailored solutions for internal processes with the aim of optimizing operations in automotive manufacturing.

One such project is the implementation of a collaborative robot, known as Cobot, designed to handle electronic circuit boards, inspect parts, and detect defects during the manufacturing process. This same robot shares the workspace with operators, and thanks to its sensors, it slows down or stops moving when a person approaches, enhancing staff safety during automated processes.

The purpose of automation is not to replace workers, but rather to assign repetitive tasks—and those that place a greater physical strain on staff—to automated systems.

As a result, Nidec Mobility Mexico has created a dynamic and expanding automotive ecosystem, establishing Guanajuato as a hub specializing in the automotive industry in Mexico.
