Nissan Introduces Hybrid Pickup to the Mexican Market
Nissan chose Mexico as the first market outside of China where it will distribute the new Frontier Pro pickup, produced by its partner, Zhengzhou Nissan Automobile Co. With this move, the leading brand by volume joins other global automakers that are leveraging their production capacity in that country to face fierce local competition that is keeping sales at record levels.
After going on sale this month at dealerships across the country, the pickup will reach other Latin American markets by the end of the year, as well as the Middle East and the Philippines, where it will be marketed as the Navara Pro, followed by the first right-hand-drive markets—Australia and New Zealand—in 2027.
The vehicle was developed with 1.5- and 2.0-liter plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrains, as well as a gasoline/diesel engine option. The availability of each powertrain will vary by market, reflecting customer preferences in each region. The internal combustion version will be sold in the Middle East, while the PHEV will be available in Latin America, the Pacific region, and Oceania.
For the Japanese automaker, the Frontier Pro “demonstrates what happens when innovative thinking becomes real capability. “By combining advanced technology, impressive performance, and Nissan’s renowned quality and durability, we’ve created a pickup truck that reflects our ambition to go beyond, defying expectations while remaining practical for everyday use,” the company said when unveiling the model.
At this time, Nissan has not disclosed prices, trim levels, or sales projections for this vehicle.
