Nuevo Leon is not an option for Tesla: AMLO
MEXICO – Andrés Manuel López Obrador, President of Mexico, said that Nuevo Leon does not have the water conditions for Tesla, OEM of Elon Musk, to settle in the state, explaining that he will look for the new plant to be better located in the south of the country.
He said that he is talking with Tesla's directors about the situation, meanwhile, the minister of Foreign Affairs, Marcelo Ebrard and the minister of Finance, Rogelio Ramírez de la O, are the ones in charge of starting conversations with the company and analyzing which places can supply it with water without aggravating the water stress of the aquifers.
Despite this, Samuel Garcia, Governor of Nuevo Leon, continues to report that there will soon be historic investments in his state that will position the state as the strongest in the Mexican automotive industry.
According to the Mexican Automotive Industry Association (AMIA), the automotive industry currently represents almost 4% of the national gross domestic product (GDP) and 20.5% of the manufacturing GDP, more than any other sector.
