Nuevo León Leads Private Construction in Mexico
Nuevo León recorded a production value of US$305.2 million in the private construction sector during July 2026, ranking first nationwide, according to data from INEGI’s National Survey of Construction Companies (ENEC).
The result placed the state ahead of several other states in the country, including Jalisco, which reported US$163.3 million; Sonora, with US$148 million; Mexico City, with US$118.3 million; and Baja California, with US$113.3 million.
With this level of production, Nuevo León has surpassed Jalisco—the second-ranked state in the comparison—by nearly 87% and recorded the double than Mexico City.
Betsabé Rocha, Nuevo León’s Secretary of Economy, noted that the construction industry has been a key component of the state’s economic development, thanks to the demand for infrastructure, services, and supplies that it generates for various productive sectors.
“Nuevo León continues to demonstrate its ability to attract investment and develop major projects. Ranking first nationally in private construction speaks to the confidence in our state and to an economy that continues to require infrastructure to grow. Here, investments translate into new developments, business activity for our companies, and job opportunities for our people” she said.
Private construction encompasses real estate development, industrial infrastructure, commercial spaces, and other projects involving construction companies, material suppliers, and specialized service providers.
In Nuevo León, the development of industrial infrastructure development and real estate projects, including high-rise buildings, are part of the state's investment landscape and represents opportunities for companies involved in the construction value chain.
In this regard, Rocha emphasized the importance maintaining conditions that facilitate new projects and expand local companies' participation in investment-related economic activities.
“When a company decides to undertake a project in Nuevo León, it also creates opportunities for construction companies, suppliers, service providers, and many other economic sectors. We want to continue creating conditions that allow more investors to find the talent, infrastructure, and capabilities they need to bring their projects to fruition here" she added.
