Following the steps of long-time customers that began operations in Mexico, Transparent Container Co., Inc., an Illinois-based supplier of packaging solutions, announced it’s opening a new production facility in Tijuana in order to better serve its partner, but also to improve cost efficiency.

Founded in 1961, Transparent Container designs and manufactures transparent and paperboard packaging for all kinds of business, including cosmetics and personal care, consumer electronics, hardware and household, school and office suppliers, automotive, food, pet, sporting goods, and retail channels markets.

“Several of our key partners have moved their manufacturing facilities to Tijuana and Mexicali in the past few years. When we saw the general trend in that area, we determined the best way to serve businesses in Mexico is by building a new manufacturing facility,” said Steve Fifer, Vice President of Operations, in a post at the company’s blog.

Fifer expects the transition and expansion to Tijuana will allow them to gain new customers in Mexico as well.

Located at La Encantada industrial park, the 87,750-square-feet facility will be one of Transparent Container’s largest manufacturing plants. The building was named “Falcon I” after the Millennium Falcon, “a wink to our speed-to-market philosophy,” Fifer added.

The production plan includes 11 thermoforming machine lines under the supervision of Plant Manager Javier Solis, a 25-year packaging and manufacturing veteran and a Tijuana local.

“Solis is the perfect leader for the new plant (…) He’s training with existing Transparent Container teams now, preparing to open the new facility,” Fifer indicated.

The company did not reveal the amount of investment allocated to this project nor the number of job positions it will bring to Tijuana.

According to its website, Transparent Container operates another production facility in Obregon, Sonora.
