Port of Manzanillo Sees an 11% Increase in Traffic

Port of Manzanillo handled approximately 2,825,000 TEUs in the first half of 2026, an 11% increase compared to last year, thanks to growing export volumes and an increase in containerized cargo.

According to the monthly report from the Manzanillo National Port System Administration (Asipona), exports transported in containers increased by 16% and accounted for 44% of the total volume of that type of cargo.

Similarly, imports accounted for 41% of the total, with transshipment operations representing the remaining 15%. Foreign trade accounted for a significant portion of the port facility’s operations, with containerized cargo making up 75% of all commercial cargo handled in the first eight months of the year, as confirmed by the distribution data.

As a result, commercial cargo handled in Manzanillo increased by nearly 6% between January and August, as did container traffic, with mineral bulk cargo accounting for 16% of the total volume, agricultural bulk cargo accounting for 6% of that volume, and general cargo accounting for 4%.

Ship traffic increased, with 1,175 vessels arriving in the first half of the year—82 times more than last year.

A total of 116 vessels carried petroleum products and derivatives, with 1,509 carrying commercial cargo, equivalent to 90% of all arrivals.

Manzanillo typically handles approximately 45% of the shipping containers that pass through Mexican ports, including those on the Pacific, the Gulf of Mexico, and the Caribbean.
