Puebla Seeks to Develop Aerospace Cluster

Building an aerospace ecosystem in Puebla requires investment, specialized talent training, and coordination among industry, academia, and government, according to experts and faculty members at the Popular Autonomous University of the State of Puebla (UPAEP).

Puebla has opportunities to expand its participation in the aerospace industry by establishing a cluster that brings together universities, companies, and government agencies, while leveraging planned infrastructure projects and the experience gained in the automotive sector.

During events focused on aerospace development, Dr. Omar González, a specialist in Intelligent Systems at UPAEP, highlighted that consolidating the industry requires more than infrastructure. It also depends on a skilled workforce and a collaborative strategy involving key stakeholders.

He explained that collaboration among industry, academia, and government, known as the Triple Helix model, is essential to building a competitive cluster.

Civil society could also be incorporated into this framework, broadening participation in economic and technological development.

González noted that educational institutions are responsible for training the professionals companies will need, helping Puebla avoid relying exclusively on talent from other states.

Meanwhile, Dr. Héctor Simón Vargas Ramírez, a specialist in aerospace development, noted that Mexico is experiencing a period of opportunity for the aerospace industry and that Puebla can capitalize on its advantages to attract investment and create specialized jobs.

Vargas Ramírez said a consortium of universities and educational institutions is being formed to identify collaboration opportunities and develop the skilled workforce required by aerospace companies.

The initiative aims to strengthen ties between academia and industry while training professionals to join companies in the sector or establish their own businesses.
