SICT will invest US$696,148 to expand the Amozoc toll booth.

Given the traffic that typically builds up at the Amozoc toll plaza on the Puebla-Orizaba highway, the Puebla Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT) has decided to invest US$696,148 to expand it from six to 12 lanes, and they hope to begin construction soon.

The expansion, as announced by the federal agency’s representative, Javier Aquino Limón, prioritizes this construction project due to the traffic volume generated during “rush hour.”

I would like to explain that the toll booth will be moved just one and a half kilometers from its current location in order to reduce the wait time to cross the toll zone by 40 minutes.

He also noted that feasibility studies for the new location of the toll booth were conducted last year, and that the construction work will be carried out by the Federal Highway and Bridge Authority (Capufe).

The SICT aims to address the constant complaints from motorists who use this federal highway, a route that has become essential for travel from the center to the south of the country, the highway that runs through the state of Puebla is the second-busiest in the country, which is why it is necessary to improve the efficiency of toll payments.

Aquino Limón reported that the agency is allocating more than US$174,037 for more than 120 infrastructure projects, including highways, bridges, and roads, as well as educational projects.

Meanwhile, the SICT began an US$87,018 investment to repair 21 bridges and 42 road sections damaged by the rains; these projects address the damage sustained by the road infrastructure in the Sierra Norte.

The federal official has stated that the work is focused on rehabilitating infrastructure that directly affects connectivity in 15 municipalities in the region.
