State of Mexico Eyes More Foreign Investment

State of Mexico has nearly reached US$20 billion in cumulative foreign investment since the current administration took office, according to Laura Teresa González Hernández, head of the state’s Secretariat of Economic Development (Sedeco).

The official said the state expects to maintain the pace of investment attraction during the final quarter of the year, a period that coincides with the peak consumption season, when “sales increase considerably.”

She identified retail, services, logistics, construction, and manufacturing as some of the sectors that continued to grow in the state throughout 2026.

To maintain a steady flow of new projects, González Hernández explained that Sedeco operates an investment attraction program involving direct contact with companies potentially interested in establishing operations in the state, supported by a team dedicated to identifying potential investors.

Internationally, the state is working with ambassadors, binational chambers of commerce, and international organizations to establish relationships with potential investors.

The strategy also involves coordination with the federal Ministry of Economy to identify investment opportunities in strategically important sectors.

Among the countries with which the state seeks to strengthen ties, González Hernández mentioned the United States and Canada in North America; France, Germany, and Spain in Europe; and the Netherlands. In Asia, she highlighted Japan and South Korea, as well as emerging ties with Taiwan.

The secretary said companies in the logistics and manufacturing sectors are interested in investing in various areas of the state. However, she clarified that no investments have been confirmed, as studies to determine the capacity of potential sites are still pending.

Similarly, several data center projects are currently under negotiation with companies. Although no names or investment amounts were disclosed, potential locations in the northern, metropolitan, and eastern regions of the state are being evaluated.
