Students are designing a rocket, drones, and microsatellite projects
Students studying mechanical engineering, mechatronics, electronics, and systems engineering at the University of Salamanca are working on an experimental rocket, drones, and projects related to microsatellites, in an effort to engage with the aerospace sector, which relies on multiple disciplines to function.
These projects will be presented in October at the Engineering Division of the Irapuato-Salamanca Campus, where activities will also be held with researchers, specialists, and professionals in the aerospace sector.
Víctor Alonso Ramírez Elias, an advisor to the group organizing these activities, explained that one of the goals is to demonstrate student participation in aerospace projects, even though their degree programs do not carry that specific designation.
The proposal anticipates that the knowledge gained in these areas can be applied to design, electronics, programming, and manufacturing, as well as other components necessary for the development of technology related to the sector.
The experimental rocket project will be one of the projects presented; a controlled demonstration of it will be conducted in accordance with a safety protocol to show other students the work that went into developing this type of technology.
However, this project is still in development, so the launch is merely a demonstration of the components the students are working with. The goal is to expose the student community to processes that are typically viewed only in theory, in order to show how different branches of engineering can work together within a single project.
In addition to experimental rocketry, the program also includes work with drones and projects related to microsatellites—areas in which students seek to apply the knowledge they have acquired in their respective degree programs.
Amara Gutiérrez, president of the AeroGeek Group, and Juan Antonio Villanueva Arangel, who will soon take over as president, emphasized that the week will also help other students learn about the professional and academic opportunities related to their fields.
