MEXICO – The Secretariat of Tourism Development of Yucatán (Sefotur) and the Guatemalan airline TAG Airlines are preparing to launch a new route between Merida and Guatemala. This service is expected to be available in the first quarter of the year, with four weekly frequencies.

"The new route will connect two strategic destinations of the Mayan World and increase the tourist offer for both domestic and foreign travelers," said Michelle Fridman, minister of Sefotur.

The airline currently operates 27 daily flights in Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Belize and Mexico, with a fleet of more than 20 aircraft.

Last year TAG Airlines began operations in Mexico, with the Cancun-Guatemala, Cancun-Flores and Guatemala-Tapachula routes.

In a press release, the company announced that it is preparing a route between Guatemala and Oaxaca, and is also analyzing the possibility of flying the Guatemala-Huatulco route.
