Tamaulipas and the Increase in MSME Exports to Texas

Tamaulipas has launched a program aimed at strengthening the export capacity of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) to facilitate their access to the U.S. market.

The Secretary of State for the Economy, Ninfa Cantú Deándar, has noted that the program called “From Tamaulipas to Texas” aims to take advantage of the geographic proximity, economic integration, and logistical connectivity with the neighboring state to expand commercial opportunities through tools that would help producers and business owners increase their competitiveness.

The initiative would offer specialized training, business assessments, market research, personalized consulting, and assistance in developing export plans. It would also provide support with certifications, labeling, health and safety requirements, customs procedures, logistics, financing, and connecting businesses with buyers and distributors.

As part of the strategy, the plan is to partner with retail chains and distributors that already have a presence in Texas—such as H-E-B, Stripes, MexMart, La Michoacana, and Valero—as well as to collaborate with institutions specializing in foreign trade and financing, such as Mexico’s National Customs Agency, NacionalFinanciera, Bancomext, etc.

Texas represents a strategic market, thanks to its logistics infrastructure and high demand for Mexican products, which has arisen due to the growth of the Hispanic population—which accounts for 40.3% of its residents—as well as the consumption of food, beverages, agro-industrial products, and handicrafts.
