Tamaulipas Invests US$859,100 in Livestock Genetics

Tamaulipas' Secretariat of Rural Development, Fisheries, and Aquaculture has concluded its 2026 Genetic Improvement Program, which comprised seven events and a total investment of US$859,100. The program benefited 536 livestock producers across 29 municipalities, the state government reported.

Antonio Varela Flores, head of the department, highlighted the importance of improving the state's livestock genetics by acquiring high-quality breeding animals to increase the productivity and competitiveness of livestock operations.

At the latest event, held as part of the 2026 Tamaulipas Fair, 180 bulls, 20 rams, and 14 goats from 29 local ranches were offered for sale.

Under the program, eligible producers received a 50% subsidy toward the purchase of breeding animals, in accordance with the requirements established in the program's operating rules.
