TAPI’s Investment Boosts Production of Oncology Drugs

TAPI México, a pharmaceutical company, has decided to invest US$7 million to expand its plant located in Lerma, State of Mexico. The goal is to strengthen domestic production of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and to achieve self-sufficiency in the supply of medications, particularly cancer treatments.
It has been determined that the first phase of this plan will begin with US$7 million from a partnership with a domestic supplier to develop the production of 5-fluorouracil, a key ingredient used to create cancer drugs.
Similarly, the plan is for a second phase to begin with an additional investment of US$3 million, which would help expand the production capacity of other product lines at the plant—the company’s only facility in the Americas, as highlighted by Pedro Goya, CEO of TAPI Mexico.
He also added that the plant has more than 210 employees and a portfolio of more than 35 APIs, with 12 production lines and a professional team committed to producing and supplying APIs across all categories of oncology, respiratory, and endocrinology.
The APIs produced by that company are used in 68 medications on the list of health supplies, and the plant has become an export hub for the Americas, in full compliance with FDA and Cofepris regulations.
The initiative aims to help create 10 direct, specialized jobs and 250 indirect jobs during what would be the construction phase and the plant's initial operations.
