The Digital Transformation Program for Airport Infrastructure Is Under Discussion

The Digital Transformation Program for Airport Infrastructure was discussed with industry stakeholders, with the aim of standardizing processes and preventing fragmentation within the 2025–2030 Master Development Plan (PMD) covering Mexico’s airport sector.

The initiative, spearheaded by Autodesk—whose design software is used in various airport development projects—aims to align projects and investments with the priorities established by the PMD, such as improving coordination, traceability, and the reliability of information for decision-making, as well as integrating planning, capital projects, construction, and operations through digital continuity of information.

Carlo Valarezo, the company’s vice president for the Americas, emphasized in an interview with the aerospace news website A21 that this initiative, which is about to begin, has already been implemented by other global organizations, and that the program aims to address the challenges Mexico currently faces.

Meanwhile, the Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacifico (GAP) announced an investment of US$3.06 million under the PMD, while the Grupo Aeroportuario Centro Norte (OMA) will contribute US$943 million.

These funds are earmarked for renovations, expansions, and new technology designed to strengthen and improve terminal operations and the user experience.

“To take a step further in terms of digital transformation, one thing is essential: transformation is not possible if there is fragmentation. And if there is fragmentation in leadership, there are risks,” added Valarezo.

It was also announced that those who participate in the initiative will enjoy benefits such as technical assistance, the opportunity to speak with representatives from airports in the United States and other markets, as well as access to workshops and specialized events.

One of the key sources of support highlighted by Autodesk is the government, which is responsible for shaping legislation that supports the creation of standards. Therefore, assessing the plan’s impact is important because it can lead to standardization through legislation, enabling better use of funds and a more efficient way to deliver projects while ensuring their traceability.
