The Municipality of Chihuahua Allocates More Than US$45.1 Million for MSMEs

The Chihuahua municipal government has granted more than US$45.1 in loans over the past five years, in addition to funds that have made it possible to support 3,129 businesses of various sectors and sizes.

 This support was channeled through the Chihuahua Municipal Entrepreneurs Fund (FOMECH) and the Municipal SME Promotion Program (Impulso Municipal MiPyME), initiatives designed to address one of the primary needs of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises: access to capital to maintain operations and expand growth opportunities.

The funds provided have been used to cover needs such as working capital, inventory purchases, payroll, rent, and utilities, as well as the purchase of machinery, tools, equipment, and furniture, thereby ensuring that businesses have the liquidity and capacity to continue their operations.

In turn, FOMECH operates as a revolving fund in coordination with Desarrollo a la Microempresa A.C., through which it offers loans ranging from US$710.35 to US$29,600 at interest rates lower than those typically found in the market, according to the programs’ terms and conditions.

The financing plan also includes mechanisms to help companies access funds for certification processes, including ISO 9001 and AS 9100, requirements that can open the door to new markets and facilitate the integration of local businesses into national and international supply chains.

With this, the municipal administration hopes that the funding will truly serve as a tool to strengthen businesses, preserve jobs, and create the conditions for Chihuahua businesses to increase their production capacity and take advantage of new opportunities within the local economy.
