Toyota & Joby: Driving the production of electric air taxis

Under its “Mobility for All” vision, Toyota is working to expand the ways people get around through solutions that bring the freedom of movement to more people and help reduce the carbon footprint.

This vision was born in 2020 through a collaboration between Toyota and Joby Aviation, a company specializing in the development of electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. Since then, Toyota has supported the development of this technology with investment, technical expertise, and its global experience in production systems, while Joby has driven the innovation needed to bring a new form of all-electric air transportation to life.

In the most recent announcement regarding the initial phase of their partnership, Toyota and Joby formalized the creation of a joint venture, Joby Toyota Aero Manufacturing Preparation Company—a step aimed at laying the groundwork for advancing toward the commercial production of eVTOL aircraft and thereby bringing this joint effort to fruition.

Through this partnership, Toyota reaffirms that its transformation into a mobility company is not limited to what happens on the ground, but rather seeks to build—together with partners who share its purpose—a future where people can travel more safely and efficiently, always guided by the philosophy of Mobility for All.
