Toyota Plans New Assembly Plant in Texas

Toyota plans to build a new $2 billion assembly plant adjacent to the one it currently operates in Bexar County, on the outskirts of San Antonio, Texas, according to a report by AutoNews that cites documents filed by the Japanese automaker with state authorities as its source.

The initiative, dubbed “Project Orca,” is expected to create approximately 2,000 direct jobs, according to the application submitted to the State Comptroller’s Office to secure tax incentives.

According to the report, construction of Toyota’s sixth plant in the United States will begin this year if the necessary conditions are met, with the goal of starting production by 2030.

Although it does not specify which vehicles the new facility will produce, the report highlights that dealerships in the neighboring country have repeatedly asked the company to launch a compact pickup truck to compete with the popularity of the Ford Maverick.
