Toyota to Maintain Guanajuato Plant Operations
Toyota has confirmed that its plant in Apaseo el Grande, Guanajuato, will continue operating normally, despite the automaker's previously announced US$3.6 billion investment to expand its operations in San Antonio, Texas.
The announcement is particularly relevant for Mexico, as it reinforces Guanajuato's strategic role within Toyota's global manufacturing network. The investment does not involve a relocation of operations; rather, the expansion in the United States complements regional production integration while maintaining the Guanajuato facility as a key component of North America's automotive supply chain.
According to Toyota, the newly built production facility in Texas is not expected to begin operations until 2030, while the Apaseo el Grande plant will continue operating according to its established production schedules. This reinforces the integrated manufacturing model that defines the region under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).
Toyota's continued presence reflects Guanajuato's growing competitiveness in recent years. Factors such as the availability of specialized talent, industrial infrastructure, logistics connectivity, and a well-established supplier network have helped keep the state among Mexico's leading destinations for automotive investment.
Guanajuato Governor Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo highlighted the state's commitment to maintaining favorable conditions for long-term investment.
“Guanajuato continues to offer the conditions of competitiveness, certainty, and confidence that make it possible to secure long-term investments.”
The governor stated that coordinated efforts between the government and the private sector continue to strengthen an environment conducive to economic growth, job creation, and industrial development.
To date, Toyota has invested US$2.3 billion in Guanajuato, generating 3,027 direct jobs. These figures underscore the automaker's importance within the state's manufacturing ecosystem. The Apaseo el Grande plant represents one of the most significant investments in Guanajuato's automotive sector and is part of a highly integrated value chain that contributes to regional competitiveness.
The state government also reported that it maintains ongoing communication with companies operating in Guanajuato to support their expansion plans, provide investment certainty, and further strengthen local supply chains.
