Vehicle sales in Mexico grew by 24.4% in 2023
MEXICO - Car sales in Mexico rose by 24.4% during 2023, with the commercialization of 1,361,433 vehicles, according to official figures.
That annual figure exceeded by 3.3% the sales levels seen in 2019, when 1,317,931 units were marketed.
According to Guillermo Rosales, executive president of the Mexican Association of Automotive Distributors (AMDA), the annual rate of car sales is below industry expectations.
"As for AMDA's annual estimate, which stood at 1,367,999 units, this was 0.5% higher than the accumulated figures observed in 2023, which totaled 1,361,433 units," he said.
In December alone, 142,959 light vehicles were sold in Mexico, 16.0% higher than the 123,282 units sold in December of the previous year, which represents an increase of 19,677 units.
In terms of performance compared to November, the last month of 2023 saw an increase of 13,998 units in the sale of new light vehicles, an increase of 10.9%.
Nissan is at the head of the brands marketed in the country, with 17.7% of car sales registered in 2023. Followed by General Motors, with 13.5% and Volkswagen Group, with 11%.
