Veracruz Ports Account for 27% of Cargo
The ports of Veracruz, Coatzacoalcos, and Tuxpan handled more than 50 million metric tons of cargo from January through September 2026, accounting for 27% of Mexico’s total port cargo, according to the state government.
The Secretary of Economic and Port Development, Ernesto Pérez Astorga highlighted the state government’s efforts to leverage Veracruz’s logistics infrastructure to attract investment, strengthen industrial activity, and create jobs.
“We must take a decisive step: ensuring that goods passing through our territory also generate value within it. That way, we can move from a state of transit to one that generates value, employment, and well-being,” he said.
According to government data, the infrastructure of the three ports facilitates trade, industrial activity, and energy-sector operations by connecting them to domestic and international markets. It also helps integrate local businesses into supply chains.
