Veracruz will invest US$55 million to expand the WTC.

Governor Rocio Nahle García has just given the green light to begin the renovation and expansion of the World Trade Center Veracruz, a project expected to involve an investment of US$55 million to double the venue’s capacity, as well as to position the state as one of Mexico’s leading destinations for business tourism.

The governor emphasized that this plan will help attract national and international conferences, conventions, and exhibitions, as well as activities that will boost hotel occupancy, commercial activity, mobility, employment, and economic revenue.

The project covers 86,600 m², with a plan that, upon completion of the expansion, would place the WTC among the five largest convention centers in the country. The work will be carried out by the company ICA. While the expansion is underway, the venue plans to continue its operations and hold its already scheduled events; in addition, the construction company has indicated that it will work in coordination with Veracruz-based companies and local labor.

The project includes the renovation of the existing parking lot, the construction of an underground parking garage, the renovation of interior spaces, the construction of plazas, gardens, the auditorium, and offices, as well as the expansion of the so-called Tajín Hall and the construction of an outdoor forum or amphitheater for cultural, tourist, and business activities.

Meanwhile, the mayor of Boca del Río, María Josfina Gamboa Torales, has emphasized that 62% of formal employment in her municipality depends heavily on tourism, making the expansion of the venue a way to boost visitor arrivals, hotel occupancy, and job creation.
