Volkswagen’s production in Mexico increases 16.9%, exports up 14.7%

Volkswagen of Mexico increased its production by 16.9% during the first nine months of the year, compared to the same period in 2016, the Mexican Automotive Industry Association (AMIA) revealed.
From January through September the plant in Cuautlancingo, Puebla assembled 357,152 vehicles, almost 17% more than a year ago, when production reached 305,522 units.
A similar increase occurred in the exports. During the first nine months of this year 288,193 cars manufactured by Volkswagen of Mexico were shipped to foreign markets, mainly the United States. This figure represents 41,729 units more than in 2016 or an increase of 14.7%.
The annual increase in production registered by Volkswagen de Mexico practically doubles the average increase in the national automotive industry. Even so, from January through September, automakers with operations in the country reported a record production.
