Volkswagen revives the Golf in Puebla

Volkswagen de Mexico confirmed that in 2027 it will formally begin production of the Golf at its plant in Cuautlancingo, Puebla, marking the return of one of the brand’s most iconic models to Mexican assembly lines after production was moved to Germany in 2021.

In a press release, the German automaker reaffirmed its corporate stance on the project and emphasized that the decision represents a vote of confidence by the Volkswagen Group in the Puebla plant, in an environment it described as challenging for the group and the brand worldwide.

The company noted that the return of the Golf is of strategic importance both for its Mexican operations and for the automotive group. In this regard, it emphasized that the Puebla plant, with nearly six decades of operation, remains one of the company’s most important facilities and a driving force behind the state’s economy.

With the Golf’s return starting in 2027, Volkswagen de Mexico will strengthen the portfolio of vehicles manufactured in Puebla and consolidate the plant’s role within the Volkswagen Group’s global manufacturing strategy; operational details will be revealed as the project progresses.
