Walmart Mexico sales increase 5.4%

MEXICO — The comparable sales of retailer Walmart de México (Walmex) registered an annual growth of 5.4% in the country during February, a figure above what was expected by analysts.
The same or comparable sales correspond to those stores with more than one year in operation, explained the company. Private analysts expected a 4.8-5.2%. increase in equal sales. Walmex explained that the number of transactions in its stores grew by 0.4%, while the average purchase amount per customer rose by 5%.
The firm's total consolidated sales, which include its operations in Central America, grew 5.5%. For Central America, the company controlled by US giant Wal-Mart Stores reported a 0.9% increase in its comparable sales in February.
The retailer stated that during the second month of 2019 it opened two stores, for a total of 3,253 units in operation at the end of February in Mexico and Central America. Shares of Walmex closed with an increase of 0.88%.
