Arizona-based TPI Composites, an independent manufacturer of composite wind blades, announced that Danish wind turbines manufacturer Vestas Wind Systems A/S has exercised an option to add two more V136 blade manufacturing lines under an existing multiyear supply agreement.

Now TPI will manufacture blades for Vestas from six production lines instead of two lines as originally planned. The wind blades will begin to come out from TPI’s new manufacturing hub in Matamoros, Tamaulipas in Northern Mexico during the current quarter.

“We are pleased that Vestas has executed its option to add two more production lines with TPI in Mexico for its V136 wind turbine,” said in a statement Steve Lockard, President and CEO of TPI Composites. The financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

TPI has produced wind blades in Mexico since 2002, and currently operates three wind blade facilities in Ciudad Juarez.
