In 2018, Mexico exceeded expectations in cruise ship tourism, with a growth of 7.2% regarding the number of tourists per ship, 4.0% in cruise ship arrivals to national ports, and a gain of US$480 million.

The port of San Miguel, on the island of Cozumel, Quintana Roo, currently concentrates the largest cruise activity in Mexico, according to data from Coordinación General de Puertos y Marina Mercante.

From January to November, Mexico recorded 2,362 arrivals and six million cruise passengers, showing a 4.0% increase in the number of arrivals and 7.2% in the number of passengers per ship.

Data from Banco de México (Banxico) revealed that the cruise industry contributes to the country with about US$480 million.

Each year, about 160,000 Mexicans travel on cruise ships to different parts of the world, and it is expected that in 2019 this number will be exceeded, as the rates are increasingly competitive and the added value of services, attractions and amenities continue to innovate in each ship.
